Detlef not feeling entirely safe is one of the reasons Dain didn't want to do this. It might help to strike up some simple conversation on the way over, but he finds that he can't quite even manage that, at least without sounding as nervous as he feels. A nervous Shepherd isn't going to do anything to help Detlef feel more at ease.

Once they're inside the stables, however: "Tell me how I can help," Dain says, because he recognises that careful way in which Detlef is moving. "If you tell me where things are, I'll get them for us. You can sit down."
