Later he'll try to convince Dain that Miss Pants wouldn't be too lonely if she had a human, and a human wouldn't be too lonely if he had a Miss Pants, but they're moving on to the more serious topic anyway and all of Detlef's focus is needed for breathing. Lorne's explanation actually makes a bit of sense, that if Detlef's not hurting anyone he shouldn't be hurt. Dain hasn't offered a why, though.
